Behind the Leaves

From plant killer to urban jungle owner.

My plant collection after one year
"My indoor jungle after my first year as a plant mom."

It started with a warning from Mom

My journey with plants didn't start with a green thumb. In fact, it started with a test.

Back when I was still living with my parents, my mom gave me a cactus. Her logic was simple but brutal: "Before you even think about having children, you need to prove you can keep a plant alive first."

I thought, how hard can it be? It's a cactus. They survive in deserts. Well, turns out, it's harder than it looks. I managed to kill that cactus. I felt like I failed the "adulting" test completely, and I gave up on plants for a while after that.

The Avocado Obsession

The real turning point came years later when I moved into my own place. One day, after eating an avocado, I decided on a whim to try and propagate the seed instead of throwing it out.

To my surprise, it actually worked. Seeing those roots sprout was addictive. Suddenly, one avocado plant wasn't enough. Before I knew it, I had 7 avocado trees taking over my windowsill, and a rapidly growing interest in seeing what else I could grow.

Living Decor

I realized that decorating a home with static knick-knacks and small porcelain figures was... boring.

Plants are different. They are living decor. They grow, they change, they unfurl new leaves. A plant is never the same boring object sitting on a shelf; it's a living thing that rewards your care.

Now, my apartment is filled with way more than just avocados (as you can see in the picture!), and I created The Plant Corner to share the knowledge I've gathered along the way—so you don't have to kill a cactus to learn the basics.
